People commission dog photography for a variety of different reasons. Whether they’re looking for a unique gift experience for a loved one, or commissioning a portrait session for their own hound, the underlying reason is usually the same. A photography session is an opportunity to celebrate your four-legged friend, and to create lasting memories that can be shared and enjoyed for years to come. In Beans’ case, her mum and dad were moving to Paris (exciting stuff!) and were looking for the perfect way to commemorate their time in the UK. Originally from the USA, Beans and her family are already very well-travelled, but they particularly wanted to capture their time spent in the beautiful English countryside and sleepy village of Market Bosworth, Leicestershire.

The weather forecast wasn’t looking great for our session, but when you’re moving to another country in two week’s time, there isn’t much time to reschedule! Luckily it stayed dry and bright enough that we managed to spend a couple of hours exploring the local country park and even ventured into the village itself. It was actually a welcome challenge, giving me the opportunity to shoot some very soft, atmospheric portraits and making the most of the beautiful colours and textures around us.

Due to her typical husky nature (and tendency to wander off) we kept Beans on lead for 99% of her session, with the exception of a few carefully planned action shots! It’s actually incredibly common for me to work with dogs on lead – and in most cases it can be completely edited out of the photos in post-processing. So if you’ve toyed with the idea of commissioning professional photos of your dog, but worry that they can’t be let off lead when out and about – fear not! It’s pretty amazing what you can achieve with a little Photoshop wizardry 🙂
