September is an unusual time of year – the kids are back at school (yay?), and the weather is still deciding whether it’ll gift us with an Indian Summer or a complete washout. It’s also prime time for heather! If you live in Northamptonshire, you’d be forgiven for not being overly familiar with this particular plant – there’s a distinct lack of heathland in the county (boo!). Nonetheless, I was determined to make the most of this fleeting season, and scoured the local area for any sign of heather I could find. Eventually, I stumbled across the tiniest patch, well off the beaten track, and knew that I simply had to get a pup photographed against that tiny blanket of purple goodness.

This is where Maya comes in! Not only is Maya an insanely gorgeous huskyXGSD, she’s also incredibly clever, and has a repertoire packed full of tricks and commands – hands down the most well trained dog I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting (you can follow her over on her Facebook page – The Life of Maya). This made my job super easy when it came to our session. Maya happily posed and sat patiently as we wandered through the woods, snapping away among the trees and the ferns. Eventually we reached our spot of heather, where she very obligingly settled down on the heathland for a few very special snaps. After that, it was onto chasing rabbits and doing zoomies through the tall grass, before heading home to bed and a well-earned rest – great job, Maya!
